This is part 3 of a 4 part post documenting the collaborative performance installation between Cessali Fournier and Jaclyn Rawls. The show, titled Home, interwove many aspects of trauma and healing within the context of domestic/family life. Although informed by the past, this show took place in the immediate presence. Home became a living space for healing.

The sharp edges of the mirror sliced our video images and dispersed the fragmented apparitions around onto the surrounding walls and floor. This served as a metaphor for the experience of dissociation.

Adjacent to the mirrors were two “stations.” A writing station allowed visitors to reflect on their experience, and send postcards to themselves or others. They put their responses in the house-shaped boxes. There was also a fort, designed for comfort. This was stocked with books, flashlights, and a crayon for writing on the walls.

Featured in the images: Cessali Fournier, Jaclyn Rawls, and Erica Christmas.
Photographs by Kristina Knipe and Ben Rukavina.
